Hello. Ten years ago I worked at Maximum PC, and it was time to come to my senses. I was a Doctor – and I want to be your Doctor again.
A monthly article from Ask the Doctor magazine covered cryptic technical questions submitted by readers. I myself have searched for answers to these questions as a PC Primary Care Physician. If the question was incredibly specific, I would forward it to another staff member to think about helpful suggestions and post an answer. (Yes, the Doctor was not always the same person.)

I’m still pondering what format and rhythm this Ask Us Anything series might take — and I’m open to your suggestions on what you find most useful. I think I’ll stick with one topic every week so that we can focus on the topic instead of forcing you to read a huge number of unrelated questions that may not be relevant to you.
And no, I’m not going to call myself “Doctor” or anything weird like that. It’s a fresh start, and besides, I don’t want the BBC to sue me.
What are you supposed to do
Let us know what troubles you! I want to highlight common problems that might apply to others, such as “ Why does my computer keep turning on at night ” rather than “My insanely expensive scanner makes Windows display a very specific error message every time I connect. it to a specific USB port on my 5 year old motherboard. “
I also want to help you find better ways to do what you’re trying to do on your PC or mobile device – or would rather not pay if you’re using an expensive (or subscription-based) app to do so. Give us an idea of what you are trying to do or why your current solution does not suit your needs and we will try to come up with something better. And if we can’t find him, maybe a fellow Lifehacker enthusiast will come to the rescue.
