Retain the Serial Number of Your AirPods to Replace Lost Parts
If you lose one of your AirPods , Apple will take care of you (it won’t come cheap ), but if you lose the included charging case, you might be in trouble. A recent Reddit thread shows that replacing a lost AirPods case is easier than doing, especially if you don’t remember your serial number.
Solution? Save a picture of the AirPods serial number on your computer. You can find it on the box they were in, on the underside of the case lid, or by syncing your AirPods and going to Settings> General> About Us> AirPods on your phone.
The problem is that Apple won’t replace the case if you don’t have a serial number. The company doesn’t explain why this is, but one popular theories is to stop AirPod thieves looking for a new case for their stolen earbuds.
What’s interesting is that Apple’s exact policies seem to change from case to case. One AirPods owner says the company was able to find the serial number using their Apple ID, but most commentators on the thread say Apple hasn’t helped much at all.
If you lose your suitcase, you can also get a serial number by charging it otherwise. Try borrowing one from a friend, or use the demo device in the Apple Store. Just do not press the button on the case, otherwise you will lose your old serial number.
Of course, all of this could have been avoided simply by saving a picture of the serial number on your computer. While you are doing this, you can also create a folder to save all the serial numbers of your gadgets in the future. So, just in case.
