Fix Your Touchpad With This App
The MacBook Pro’s touchpad isn’t all that useful. Of course, its functionality changes depending on the app you’re in, but if you’re, like me, expecting a second screen to customize, you’re not the only one disappointed. However, you can download the third-party 2Touch app to create some custom shortcuts that will launch your favorite apps and services. With the ability to preload everything you need for any situation literally at your fingertips, 2Touch can be the app that will bring you back to the habit of touching the touchpad.
After you download 2Touch, add it to the Applications folder and run the application, you will need to grant it additional rights in the accessibility settings so that it can open windows of the sizes you specify. Go to System Preferences> Accessibility and enable 2Touch.
The app resides on the Touch Bar along with the Menu Bar, where you can add and customize Touch Bar buttons. You will be presented with a list of available applications that you can launch, as well as window size settings. You can run multiple applications at the same time, configure browsers to load selected web pages, and open them on multiple screens at the same time.
You might have a button called “Work Day” that launches Slack and the calendar app along with your browser so you can start your day without distractions. Want to quickly jump into a movie night with your partner? Just let 2Touch open a browser and run Netflix and Seamless at the same time.
You can already change some of the settings on the touchpad, although there are not many. If you miss the function keys , you can make them appear permanently (or temporarily by holding down the fn key). You can add haptic feedback to the Touch Bar using the Haptic Touch Bar app . The 2Touch feels like a missing piece for users looking to take advantage of the Touch Bar’s capabilities. Still not enough to make the Touch Bar popular? If you feel it strongly, then just turn it off , luddite.
