Organize Your IOS Apps by Color
A few years ago, I decided to arrange the apps on the Home screen by color, creating neat bars of green, blue, red, and gray. Over time, when apps redesigned or disappeared altogether , my carefully crafted system became a fluke, but a recent Twitter thread got me thinking again about the beauty (and usefulness) of arranging your app icons by color.
This may seem like a visual trick, but it also makes it easier to keep track of specific apps that you don’t use as often. Our brains remember colors , and even if you don’t understand it, you probably already know what the icon you’re looking for looks like. Organizing your home screen by color gives your brain a shortcut.
Personally, my approach has been to line up icons one at a time, but another popular method is to organize apps into folders based on color. Both methods have their advantages: if you need instant access to multiple apps, you should keep them on your home screen, but if you prefer a minimalistic layout, then folders are best.
One big disadvantage of the folder method is that the iPhone only shows one notification icon for each folder. So if you don’t check your notifications often, they can accumulate quickly and there is no easy way to determine which application is trying to grab your attention.
If you don’t want your home screen to look like this, you need to stay organized – or you can simply turn off notification icons entirely.
