Happy Hour With 3 Ingredients: Juicy Campari Spritz
Happy weekend everyone, and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. This week we’ll make a great, sparkling, juicy drink to counter the oppressive power of February.
I don’t know what the weather is like where you are, but there’s been snow on the ground near my apartment for literally several days , and I’m not a fan. This, coupled with the fact that I don’t feel very well, means I needed a joyful, fresh-tasting cocktail to cheer me up. A grapefruit, slightly bitter Italian greyhound would fit all of these requirements, but we already did , and I had a jolly can of sparkling rosé wine in my fridge and I was just begging me to use it. The combination of these three pink ingredients in a very lively and balanced drink almost made me forget about the disgusting, half-melted snow slush outside the door. To do it yourself, you will need:
- 1 oz Campari
- 30 g of ruby red grapefruit juice (here you can play with citrus fruits – tangelo or bloody oranges will do!)
- On top is a sparkling rosé wine (I’d take something sweet here to offset the bitterness of campari and grapefruit).
Add Campari and juice to an ice-filled shaker and shake until cool. (The shaker should get unpleasantly cold.) Pour into a flute or compartment and top with your favorite sparkling rosé wine. Drink to relieve this last drop of winter blues. (Alternatively, if the weather is fine where you are, have a toast to your luck and not cold temperatures.)
