I Am Professional Skier Greta Eliassen and This Is How I Work

It’s Olympics season so we’re ready to talk about the Winter X Games baby! In particular, the Games from 2005 to 2011, when skier Greta Eliassen won six medals in slopestyle and halfpipe. Since January 2017, she has been President of the Women’s Sports Foundation, which ensures women’s access to sports programs. We asked her how she does her job.

First of all, tell us a little about your past and how you got where you are now.

I started skiing at the age of two because both of my parents were skiing and hoped that our family would enjoy skiing and playing outdoors together. At an early age, I was always one of the last to climb the mountain after the lifts closed and I never mind skiing alone, I just loved skiing.

I started cross-country skiing when I was ten, then switched to freeskiing when I was 16, and I turned pro around the same time, I won the US Open when I was 17 and became the first woman freeskiing. who won the X Games at 18.

Skiing videos and editing have always been important to me because I saw my idols do it when I was growing up and dreamed of becoming a professional skier.

Tell us about a recent work day.

Wake up, have a good breakfast and stretch before heading to my local mountain resort Solitude Resort and catching one of the first chairs with the photographer. In the end, we shoot at the resort around the mountain as much as we can until the fresh snow leaves, then we part, and I go home to change with my husband so that he can also go for a little ride, and I take care of our son for the rest of the day. …

How is your workplace arranged?

I mostly email, call from the car in the parking lot.

What’s your best time-saver or life hack?

Pick up / roadside grocery and order anything and everything on Amazon.

Who are the people who help you achieve results, and how do you rely on them?

My husband, he is my accomplice in a crime. If neither of us does this, this will not happen.

How do you keep track of what you need to do?

I make lists on my phone, on notepaper, and in Google Calendar. Then I prioritize what needs to be done first.

What do you enjoy doing the most and how do you deal with it?

Listening to voice mail. However, my phone is now decrypting voice messages, so I can read them as text and decide if I need to listen to them. It became a real lifesaver for me because it helps me look through my voice messages instead of not listening to them at all. Sorry, grandma.

How do you replenish? What do you do when you want to forget about work?

I don’t sleep with my phone in the room, which has had a huge positive impact on the quality of my sleep. I also take breaks during family events or holidays to avoid looking at my computer or phone. Or, if I am in my hut on the lake, my friends know that when I come to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, I should be on the lake.

What’s your favorite side project?

Knitting. I only started doing this this spring because I got tired of looking at my phone when I was idle. I’ve already knitted three blankets and a sweater. This is a wonderful meditation and I am doing something at the same time.

What are you reading now or what do you recommend?

I try to read a book a month. I would recommend reading Pressure Is a Perk by Billie Jean King, Extreme You! Sarah Robb O’Hagan and any biography of Mother Teresa for motivation. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty and A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle for fun.
