Alaska Airlines Will Allow You to Check a Crate of Wine From These Airports for Free

If you’re flying from the West Coast on Alaska Airlines, you may be able to fly with a box of wine for free.

When I travel to a new location or somewhere, to be honest, I almost always get a bottle of booze in my checked baggage on my way home.

My wine cabinet is almost like an album of places I’ve visited, and I’ve found that everyone appreciates a bottle of local beer or wine more than a magnet when handing out souvenirs.

I very rarely bring home more than can fit in my regular baggage because I don’t want to pay for checked baggage for a box of wine, which will inevitably exceed the £ 50 limit.

And then this week I learned Wine Flies Free on Alaska Airlines.

The program is for people on vacation in wine-growing areas and allows every passenger who signs up for the Alaska Frequent Flyer program to check a box of wine without paying for checked baggage. Checking in for the frequent flyer program is free and you don’t need to be an airline to take advantage of this deal.

Wine Flies Free has been around since 2007 and was originally created to encourage people to bring wine from the Sonoma area of California.

Initially, the program was only available in 11 cities, but this weekend Alaska is expanding the program to 18 additional cities on the west coast, making the bonus available at 29 different airports.

Here’s a complete list of where you can take advantage of it now:

For transportation, the wine must be “packed and sealed for transportation in a protective shipping container”.

To celebrate new cities and National Wine Drink Day, Alaska is also offering all customers 21 and older a complimentary glass of wine on select flights this Sunday, February 18th.
