Don’t Reply to Messages You Receive From Facebook
If you receive a message from Facebook, you probably don’t want to reply – even if your response is like “Stop texting me.”
Users who signed up for two-factor authentication on a social network (which should be all, right?) Report that they receive promotional messages from Facebook on the same number, even if they did not choose to receive text notifications. Line-by-line updates informing you that a friend posted a message for the first time in a long time.
As The Verge reports , when you reply to these text messages with something like “STOP”, not only is it annoying and spamming, it doesn’t stop the messages, but instead puts your unfulfilled request on your timeline.
Facebook is reportedly looking into this issue.
For now, the problem is just another reason to consider using a code generator app rather than text for two-factor authentication. That being said, you could use an app like Google Authenticatior to get the code you enter for two-factor authentication, rather than the number you get through text.
However, it’s always a good idea to use the Authenticator app for things you might want to access when you don’t have a cellular connection or are traveling somewhere, getting texts can be a hassle.
