Convert Your Old Android Phone to Pixel 2 With This App
When the Pixel 2 first launched, there was no shortage of unofficial apps designed to bring Google’s best new software to other Android phones. The only problem was that you had to put together a bunch of small tweaks or root your phone to get the full Pixel 2 experience on older hardware. Now there is finally a no-root solution that offers all the best features in one package.
Rootless Pixel Launcher 3.0 is available for any device running Android 5.0 Lollipop and above. Aside from the usual Pixel 2 perks, it also includes some of the improvements that Android mod developers have come to expect from other launchers, as well as a few additional enhancements from app creator Amir Zaidi.
One of the top reasons to install the launcher is the Quick Tour , a dedicated Pixel 2 widget that shows your next calendar event on the home screen next to the weather at any time. Tapping the center of an app icon also opens a pop-up menu with shortcuts and notifications. The download even has special icons, including a calendar icon that changes based on the date.
If you want to install Rootless Pixel Launcher 3.0, you will have to download the unpublished version as it is not available in the Google Play store. The first thing you need to do is enable Unknown Sources by going to Settings on your phone. Then tap Security, select Screen Lock & Security and enable Unknown Sources.
Then you can download the new launcher . Then find it in the Android notification bar and tap on the file to install. When finished, press the Home button and Android will ask you to select a new home screen app. Select Pixel Launcher and set it to Always.
That’s all. Done and you have a shiny new Android launcher to play with. For more information, head over to the developer’s announcement on Reddit for a complete list of features and a detailed getting started guide.
