How to Share Snapchat Stories Outside of the App
Snapchat is in the middle of the biggest redesign in history , but on Tuesday the company announced another big update that could change the way people use its app. Starting today, you can share certain stories (which Snapchat calls disappeared videos and images) outside of Snapchat.
That’s right, even deleting the app can’t put Snapchat off anymore. Here’s how the new feature works and what you need to know about it.
Sharing a Snapchat story is a fairly straightforward process. Just go to the Discovery tab by swiping to the right from the home screen and then click on any of the tiles you see. A menu will appear with the option “Send Story”. Click on this and then select your platform (text message, email, Facebook, Twitter) to share the story.
Here’s what the process looks like:
It’s important to note that only certain types of Snapchat stories work with this new feature. You can share Celebrity Posts (aka Official Stories), our Stories curated by Snapchat staff, and Algorithm-generated Search Stories for a specific topic or location. Official stories will be 24 hours offline, but ours and search stories will not expire within 30 days, according to Mashable .
As far as the stories you and your friends have shared, they are still stuck in the app. This is probably for the best, as it means the semi-private videos and photos you post to Snapchat won’t show up on Facebook and won’t be emailed to your parents (or boss).
If you’re in the US, you probably won’t see this feature on your phone yet, as Snapchat is still testing its big update. At the moment, it is only officially available in the UK, Canada and Australia, but it should be available to everyone in the next few weeks.
