Use This Keyboard App to Create and Send GIFs

iOS / Android: Are you a fan of comfortable keyboards on your smartphone? Then you’ve probably heard of Google’s Gboard, a third-party keyboard that lets you both swipe by letter and search the web. In the latest update, you can create GIFs from the keyboard with your smartphone camera and send them wherever you go for animated images to be appreciated.

How to record and save GIF

To invoke the GIF maker, open the app where you want to publish your GIF (or at least the app where you can use Gboard). Bring your keyboard up and before you type anything, click the GIF icon in the Gboard menu bar above the keyboard. This will launch the GIF maker Gboard. You can create two types of GIFs with Gboard – loop-forward and fast-forward GIFs – and save them for later if you like them.

To create a GIF, keep your finger on the shutter button until you finish recording. Then you can save the animation to your camera album, or copy and paste it into whatever app you use.

Gboard isn’t the only keyboard that makes it easy to access GIFs, but it’s one of the few that lets you create your own without leaving your chosen app. Is this the highest form of narcissism – creating a looping image of your own face to send to friends and family who no doubt already know what you look like when you are on the move? May be. But it’s also pretty easy to do, and takes you one step closer to becoming part of the public repository of animated reaction images.
