How to Fix the New SoundCloud Streaming Format
SoundCloud recently switched its music streams from MP3 from 128kbps to Opus 64kbps. Many users hear a decrease in sound quality at high frequencies. Artist Joseph Linchesky, also known as Direct , created an extension for Chrome and Firefox to make the site work in the old format. (At the moment, Safari is still streaming MP3 format.)
To be honest, I can’t tell the difference for most of the songs. But many other people do it. If you are one of them, just download the extension and you’re done.
SoundCloud had a tough 2017 with 40% of its employees laid off, rumors circulating that the site nearly shut down before it was saved on a $ 170 million funding round . The company is in trouble and the site, while still a fantastic place for new and niche artists to share their work, seems to be getting worse. Maybe it’s time for music lovers to switch to a new music service.
