Always Add an Extra Day Off to Your Vacation Plans
Even if you’ve had a vacation filled with rest and relaxation, a trip home is often enough to destroy and disorient you. The next time you’re planning a vacation, give yourself an extra day to bounce back and prepare for your return to work.
An extra day has many benefits as it avoids many of the problems that travelers often face. Like, what if your flight is delayed or canceled? Nothing fancy, you have extra time to get home. What if they lose your luggage? You have time to replace the essentials. What if you catch a cold on the plane? Not a problem, you already have a free and clear sick leave. Or what if you’re tired of jet lag due to a long journey? You have a full 24 hours to rest and try to change your schedule. Sure, it burns up an extra day of vacation, but were you really going to use them all? I mean, you should, but most people don’t.
Best-case scenario: you don’t need an extra day and have a morning to get your home ready for the week, noon to watch the movie you’ve wanted to watch for so long, and an evening to get ready for the work week so you can relax. and avoid the “Sunday blues” that the vacationer lets go. Worst-case scenario: You have time to solve your problems before they interfere with your daily life. And if you can’t add an extra day to your vacation, cut back on your original plans for the day so you still have that 24-hour buffer. Trust me, you’ll be glad you have it.
