How to Get Super Fast Face Unlock on Your Current Android Phone
Facial recognition has officially become the next big advance in smartphones thanks to the likes of Samsung , Apple and, most recently, OnePlus . In fact, Google has been offering a similar feature to Android for years, called “Trusted Face,” but it’s nowhere near as fast and easy to use as its current competitors.
Luckily, if you’re still holding onto an older Android phone, you can use a face unlock feature similar to the one available in the new OnePlus 5T. All you need is some additional software.
How to Get OnePlus 5T Style Facial Recognition on an Old Android Phone
To get started, you need a phone running Android 7.0 or later. You also need to install Tasker, an automation app available on Google Play for $ 2.99, along with the latest beta (via XDA-Developers ) of the popular Tasker AutoInput plugin that focuses on navigating the user interface.
It’s also worth noting that this jailbroken feature won’t be as secure as Apple’s Face ID or even OnePlus’s Face Unlock. This is because it still relies on Google’s less advanced Trusted Face software. So if you are particularly concerned about security, this is not for you. However, for most people, it should provide more than adequate protection against anyone trying to snoop on your smartphone.
When you’re ready, all you need to do is open AutoInput and set Trustee to automatically skip the lock screen after registering your face, taking you straight to the home screen just like you would on the OnePlus 5T.
