An Annual Reminder That You Can Make a Cheap and Easy Window Ice Remover

Ice on your windshield is both a safety issue and a huge hassle on a frosty day when you just want to get to where you’re going and shrink there like a grumpy bear. Here’s a short video that makes it so easy to defrost a window that you throw the scraper into the debris compactor. (NB: you should probably still hold onto this scraper.)

The video was published in 2016, but recently surfaced again, along with the chill. WATE 6 News’ Ken Weathers , the meteorologist whose name was his destiny, demonstrates how to make a simple decision that instantly dissolves the ice. No, not hot water. Weathers says this can cause a crack in the windshield. Also, the more water, the more ice. Heating from the inside and using the defroster takes time and cleaning requires manual labor.

Weathers mixes two-thirds of isopropyl alcohol – medical alcohol – with one-third of water, then puts it in a spray bottle. The freezing point of medical alcohol is -128.2 ° F, so you can keep it in your car without worry. Or leave one spray bottle in the garage in case your car doors freeze. Cheap, effective, and cool enough to scare the neighborhood kids at least once before they catch on.
