IFTTT Recipe of the Week: Archive Your Musical Gems
IFTTT is an app and web service that uses if-then statements to trigger specific actions or actions on your favorite apps and devices. If you’re unfamiliar with IFTTT, be sure to check out our beginner’s guide to get the basics right. Once you’re done with that, read on for IFTTT Recipe of the Week, our new series focusing on some of the most useful (or just cool) IFTTT recipes we can find (or create!).
This week’s recipe is for music lovers who can’t get the song they heard a week ago out of their heads. If you’re lucky enough to subscribe to Spotify, you’ve undoubtedly listened to the Discover Weekly playlist, a selection of songs the service thinks you’ll like based on factors such as your listening history as well as the history of users with similar tastes.
As the name suggests, the playlist features a new selection of tunes every week. It’s great for audiophiles looking to listen to new tracks, but not so great if you want to revisit songs from the previous week’s Discover Weekly playlist. Instead of puzzling over the song you loved, or humming half-forgotten singles into your phone, let IFTTT be your music archiver.
This IFTTT recipe will automatically add 30 alternating tracks from your Discover Weekly playlist to your personal playlist, saving up to 1500 tracks you last played. This way, you will always have a record of the tunes you listened to each week. Enabling a recipe will take you to its configuration page, where you can select your weekly Discover playlist (or any playlist that gets new tracks on a regular basis) and archive new additions to another playlist you’ve created.
