How to Create a Virtual Home Button on IPhone X That Actually Works
Using the iPhone X means re-examining pretty much everything you knew about navigating iOS. That’s because Apple removed the Home button , replacing the pleasant tactile input with a bunch of new swipes and gestures.
If your muscle memory makes you reach for a Home button that is no longer there, or you just miss it, there is a solution. PhoneArena has come up with a clever trick to bring the Home button back to the iPhone X – something like that.
How to add the home button on iPhone X
The PhoneArena trick uses Apple’s AssistiveTouch , which was created for people with motor impairments who can’t use the physical buttons on their iPhone. It’s also useful if you have a broken power or home button and need a different way to navigate.
Assistive Touch always places a small round button anywhere on the screen. You can tap on it to access many different functions, such as turning on voice control, checking notifications, or returning to the home screen. In this case, “Home” is the only option we need.
To set up Assistive Touch, go to Settings, then General, then Accessibility. Select AssistiveTouch and turn it on. Then select Customize Top-Level Menu and click on the minus sign until there is only one icon left. Click on the last icon to open a list of options and click Home. Finally, go back to AssistiveTouch settings, hit Standby Opacity and set 20 percent so the virtual button isn’t distracting when not in use.
Now that you’ve created a virtual home button, simply drag it to the lower center of the iPhone X display and drop it there. The next time you automatically reach for the Home button out of habit, it really works.
