Remember Your Dreams by Stating Your Intention
Remembering your dreams after they happen, or realizing that you are in a dream while you have it, can be fun, but not entirely easy.
Science Alert reports that only about half of us were able to understand that we are in a dream while this is happening, and only a quarter of people actually report that they have frequent lucid dreams. However, if you want to remember your dreams, researchers have developed a technique that might work for you. Their work was recently published in Dreaming .
Researchers have studied several different processes that are believed to help with lucid dreaming. The leader in the group was a technique called MILD (Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreaming).
The idea behind this technique is that you repeat the phrase “The next time I sleep, I will remember that I am dreaming” while you are awake. While 17% of the participants reported having lucid dreams while doing some of the other techniques, those who used the lungs reported a whopping 46% of success.
Chances are still good that this will not work, but it was the best choice out of the options.
By repeating the phrase before going to dreamland, you create an intention in your mind that you will, in fact, remember your dreams. Researchers believe it can lead to lucid sleep.
What’s more, those who used this technique reported not feeling more tired the next day, unlike some of the other techniques tested, such as waking up in the middle of sleep, which made participants feel tired the next day.
A 46% success rate is certainly not a guarantee that it will work for you, but if you are in search of lucid dreams it might be worth giving it a try.
