Happy Hour With 3 Ingredients: Truly the Great Grog
Happy weekend everyone, and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. This week has been kind of tough, and it made me long for something very light, and what could be easier than something spit out by pirates?
There are many variations when it comes to grog. It can be served hot or cold, with or without water (why?), With or without spices. I – like Smugglers’ Cove before me – love my grog to be simple, cold and, you guessed it, three ingredients.
To make this simple scurvy treatment, you will need:
- 2 ounces dark rum
- 1⁄2 ounce demerara syrup (made with a 2: 1 turbinado sugar to water ratio)
- 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice (about half the lime)
Mix everything in a shaker with ice (or in one large cube) and shake until the drink cools. Strain into a double glass containing several small ice cubes or one very large ice cube. Do not decorate with anything; pirates don’t decorate shit.
