What Kind of Food Would You Like to Include in the Oven in Cold Weather?

Hello and welcome back toWhat’s Cooking? , an open thread where you can share your brilliant thoughts, tips, recipes and opinions on all food related matters. This week I would like to talk about your oven and how warm and cozy you plan to cook in it during these cold months.

I hate to turn on the heater until November, but as soon as the air gets a little cold I start to fry, bake and simmer as much as I can. In addition to the fact that my apartment is a little warm, there is something very cozy about looking in the window and seeing something bubbling.

  • Have you ever cleaned your oven? I know I must. I know this is an adult business, but I never did it. However, this year I am changing my lifestyle; it just gets too sketchy. I plan to use this overnight method , but if you have a better method, I am open to it.
  • What kind of ribs food are you looking forward to making? Can’t wait to make a big gumbo pot. While this is done most of the time on the stove top, roasting the chicken thighs is an important step, and due to the satiety of the gumbo, I only do it when it cools down.
  • Do you have any big plans for meat roast? I am planning to introduce my Connecticut partner to my grandmother’s fried dish (which has a lot of garlic powder) and I love it.
  • What kind of bread do you like to bake? I know it’s easy, but I can’t stop making this insanely simple, no-kneaded bread .
  • Are you baking bacon? I prefer to bake bacon on the wire rack. It comes out perfectly cooked from start to finish, and I can turn my attention to other, less fatty foods like pancakes while it cooks.
  • What kind of cookies, cakes and quick tortillas will you bake? I recently purchased a tiny cast iron skillet and am about to bake a lot of cookies in the skillet. This winter I also make Cinnamon Rolls Winter.
  • What’s your favorite grilled vegetable? Duck-fried carrots topped with a light miso glaze are my new passion for vegetables.

As always, feel free to comment on any related content that might be spinning around in your head. Just make sure it’s warm and welcoming.
