Download Your Insurance Company App so You Always Have Your Policy Information
Most of us keep a copy of our car insurance information in our glove box. It’s one of those things that you probably won’t forget to hide there when you receive it, but if you’re like me, if you have to delete it for any reason, you might also accidentally forget to put it back there. Worst of all, you don’t realize it’s missing until you have an accident or something like that and you don’t need it … now. Or, even worse, you had an accident where this information was destroyed or towed away by your vehicle.
This week Newsweek offered a simple solution to the problem: download your insurance company app.
I can’t say I thought about downloading the Geico app to my phone before. Why really? But it’s actually a great idea. Most insurance companies offer digital versions of your policy information in their app, and downloading it to your phone now means you’re already set up and ready to go if you find yourself in a situation where you need this information and it’s not readable. you.
Tipping is also good for other types of insurance. I already use the Blue Cross app to keep track of my health insurance information (I know I manage to lose these cards) and storing your renter’s insurance information on your phone is useful for the same reasons as a car problem; If you need insurance, chances are good that something happened to your home and your insurance information may not be available.
This should in no way replace the preservation of paper versions. It’s always a good idea to keep a paper version of your auto insurance in your glove box (what if you’re somewhere with a fuzzy data signal?) And keep copies of all your important documents in a safe place.
Most of my data is now stored in Dropbox. The key is to have the information available in several different places, so it is always available when you need it.
