Delta Makes Automatic Registration With Its App

Like the floppy disk icon that means “save” or “send a copy” to someone in an email when you haven’t made a copy in your life, check-in is a relic of an analog process that has almost lost its meaning in the digital age. You don’t need to be present at the airport, you just … go online and tell me that you will be there tomorrow? It is a protocol that is out of step with the times.

Well, Delta at least seems to agree. The Verge advises that Delta passengers using the airline’s mobile app will automatically check in for their flights, and boarding passes will be emailed 24 hours prior to departure time. This makes Delta the first airline in the United States to implement automatic check-in.

These changes come with the Delta iOS app update, but hopefully Android won’t be far behind. You may still need to go online to check suitcases or change seat allocation, but this is a big step in an easier – and much smarter – direction.

Update 15.10.17, 18:45: According to the comments, this now works for the Android app too.
