Serve Cheap White Wine Ice Cold
We’ve given you many ways to chill white wine quickly . But how much should it be cooled? The New York Times explains:
Too cold serving of white seriously degrades the quality of the bottles, reduces the nuances and complexity of muffling. Conversely, mediocre white dishes should be served ice cold; the temperature masks any imperfections.
Next time you splurge on good wine, leave it on the counter for a bit or spill it while you cook dinner. But your two dollar Chuck or your diner white home restaurant should be served fresh from the fridge.
As for red wine, you can leave it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes, the Times reports. Red tastes best at “room temperature” – the temperature of a wood-fired room with stone walls.
The Times article addressed five other “common wine myths,” although if you are not a wine lover, you probably haven’t even heard of these myths. The bottom line is that you can actually enjoy the wine however you want. If you really prefer white ice cubes, continue. Add Kool-Aid to this damn thing if you want. Wines vary widely, so even the “rules” are based on experimentation.
