How to Install the New Pixel 2 Camera App on Your Old Google Phone
One of the highlights of the Pixel 2 is its camera, which scored an unprecedented 98 in the DxOMark camera quality test ( 11:07 – DxOMark scoring system details have been updated). You’ll have to pay to get your hands on this new hardware, but you can try some of the fantastic new Pixel 2 camera features right now on your current Google phone.
That’s right, the new Google Camera app has already been jailbroken. You can get it right now from XDA-Developers and install it on your current device with a little extra work.
How to install the new Google Camera app
You can download the app file right here and install it on any Google device running Android 8.0 Oreo. This includes the Pixel and Pixel XL, as well as older Nexus products that support the latest Android, such as the Nexus 6P. However, some of the new features will only work on the Pixel phone, while others are completely limited to the Pixel 2.
Which camera features work on which phones?
Face Retouch, which lets you add filters and remove blemishes to your selfies, and Motion Photo (basically Google’s iOS version of Live Photos ) work on the first generation Pixel phones. However, Google’s cool new AR stickers are limited to the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.
Unfortunately, if you’re using an older Nexus device, you won’t be able to use any of the new Google Camera features, but installing the app should still improve overall performance. According to XDA-Developers, the updated app is easier to use with a higher FPS for the viewfinder. So it might still be worth installing if you can.
