Facebook Provides Both Food and Elections Now
Reminding you of your friends’ birthdays, showing you which of your relatives is racist, interfering with global geopolitics … there really is nothing Facebook can do. The next step in their quest to grab your attention: food delivery.
They officially announced the service today after testing last year. Facebook seems to think that the food ordering process has become too complicated, and since you’re already looking for restaurant reviews on their site (are you?), They should make the process easier.
According to the press release, they will work with “a range of food ordering services such as EatStreet, Delivery.com, DoorDash, ChowNow and Olo, as well as restaurants such as Jack in the Box, Five Guys, Papa John’s and Panera. so you don’t have to search multiple places to find what you’re looking for. ” Anyway, except for all these delivery networks.
You can place your order in the special “Order Food” section on the “Overview” sidebar. It allows you to browse the available restaurant options and choose which of the available delivery services you would like them to be delivered to you; you can filter by location, delivery or pickup, price range, cuisine and whether the restaurant is open or not. If you don’t have an account with the shipping service of your choice, you can sign up for one in the app, because at the moment there is another saved credit card account associated with the rest of your online presence.
Nothing really seems to differentiate the service from all other food delivery sites other than the fact that it is linked to your Facebook profile, although combining suppliers can be handy. As a Brooklynian, I don’t foresee this taking me away from the time-honored overview of Yelp and seamless traditions, but it might be more useful in cities that aren’t overwhelmed with shipping options yet. It doesn’t look like Facebook’s algorithm hasn’t figured out yet that you secretly ordered three Thai pad orders just for yourself anyway.
