These Are Disposable Cleaning Products That Parents Swear By

Jolie Kerr is a cleaning expert, advice columnist, and New York Times bestselling author of My Boyfriend Is Boiling In My Purse … And Other Things You Can’t Ask Martha About . Her flagship column, Ask a Pure Man, debuted in 2011. Here at Offspring we’ve launched a new iteration dedicated to parenting and all the mess it brings.

It is true that I hate Swiffers. I have my reasons! But I’m not here to talk to you guys today. (If you’re reading this thinking to yourself, “But I have to know why, Jolie, I MUST KNOW !!” I got you covered. So me and Adam Clark Estes from Gizmodo, who also hates Swiffers, explaining himself on my podcast .)

But it is also true that I am not really going to take your Swiffers away from you. I’m a lover, not a fighter, and everything is already complicated enough, you know? So today, instead of going negative, we’re going to “keep that in mind” and focus on the one-time-use cleansers you love-love-love. While these types of products have drawbacks, they also save so many people, so I think it’s worth spending some time discussing the outstanding achievements in this category.

I don’t use these products regularly, although I often get press samples for work, which I always try to try for a few days or weeks to get a feel for them. So, to bring you the best of the best in the disposable / convenient category from the people who actually use them, I decided to do a little crowdsourcing.

So here are the disposable cleaners that you are crazy about. Do you have any favorites that you don’t mention here? Check out the comments to tell the world about the FMCG you love.

Disinfectant double action wipes with lysol

These wipes are double-sided wipes, one smooth side for cleaning surfaces and the other textured for cleaning stubborn stains. Many people are delighted with this, especially for use in the kitchen. The plain old Lysol and Clorox wipes also appeared over and over again, with one parent mentioning that they were her favorites when cleaning her baby’s highchair.

Weiman Stainless Steel Napkins

If you have stainless steel appliances, you know they just love to display fingerprints and all kinds of other stains. While regular old microfiber can polish them quickly and easily, these stainless steel wipes are also a great choice.

Cleaning Wipes Pledge Lemon Clean and wet wipes triple action Clorox

Dust wipes collect dust, dirt and grime. Pledge wipes can be safely used on a variety of sealed surfaces, from wood and plastic to marble and granite, while Clorox wipes are great for electronics.

Swiffer Dusters and Swiffer WetJet Mop

People love Swiffer Dusters so much, folks; they have appeared over and over again for use on everything from blinds to keyboards. The WetJet Mop evokes the same passion. Also, I should note that when planning this column, my editor Michelle Wu praised the Swiffer dry mops (“Swiffers are so nice!”). Michelle also mentioned that she was buying a fake Swiffer gas station from Daiso .

Clorox Toilet Stick

Toilet sticks are great for quick cleaning toilets, but it’s worth noting that Clorox, while mentioned by people who really like them, has also received negative reviews for both the plastic stick and the cleaning pads falling apart. Scrubbing Bubbles makes a similar product that looks a little better in terms of review.

Nature’s Miracle Pet Napkins

Noteworthy for both wiping your pet and cleaning the cage quickly.

Magic erasers

I decided I would end this with a product that has appeared over and over again, this is also one of my personal favorites: the Magic Eraser. It was a sad day for me when, for work purposes, I had to dive deeply into what magic erasers are made of, because I would rather live in a world where I believe they are made of real magic.
