How to Walk on Water Correctly

Simply swimming in water may seem easy, but it’s actually quite difficult if you don’t have a flotation device, and walking on water is an important safety skill for anyone planning to spend time on or near the water, well, in general. ever. Here’s the best way to do it for as long as possible in an emergency.

After you dive into a pool, lake, pond, or ocean,PR1 Michael Pasquale of the Naval Survival Training Institute invites you to start by trying to keep the water at chin level, always keeping your head above it. Your body should be positioned as if you were sitting on a stool with your head tilted back slightly.

Now move your hands back and forth, or move your hands, palms down, in a circular motion under the surface of the water. When doing this, use a modified frog kick, rather than a scissor kick, to also keep your head above the water. The modified frog kick is to pull your knees up to your chest with your legs extended, then lower your feet before repeating the process. Repeat all these movements constantly until you can escape or find a floating device.
