College Students Can Now Get Big Discount Amazon Prime

You can be knee-deep in organic chemistry textbooks and the cheapest ramen you can find, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy Twix toilet paper and bars delivered to you on time. Amazon, which previously offered discounted Amazon Music Unlimited to college students , is now also ditching its Prime service . The new plan also allows students to pay on a monthly basis, easing the burden of finding enough small items in your (parent’s) couch cushions to pay for the service a year in advance.

The new Prime Student plan gives subscribers the same benefits as your regular Amazon Prime subscription, but will cost students a more reasonable $ 5.49 per month – or $ 49 per year – after a six-month free trial. That’s a pretty substantial discount over the regular $ 99 per year.

Students attending two or four-year colleges with valid .edu email addresses are eligible for the Prime Student program. They can also sign up for an annual Prime membership for $ 49 (saving about $ 16 over the course of the year compared to the monthly plan) if they decide to shell out a few more dollars right from the start. Again, if you’d rather spend that money on cheap fast food, you can always cancel your monthly subscription and spend the money on your parent’s Prime account during summer break.
