No Need to Count Steps Per Minute When Running – Your IPhone Already Knows About It
High cadence is part of good running form. Most pros take more than 180 steps per minute , which is a pretty good goal to aim for. But it is not necessary to count the steps the old fashioned way; your iPhone is already tracking you.
To see your step count, go to the Health app, tap your recent step count, and then tap Show all data. You will see a daily and then minute-by-minute breakdown of the steps you have taken.
Scroll down to the times when you know you’ve been out for a run and see what the counters look like. For example, one of my recent runs starts with 139 steps (I had to start half a minute) followed by half an hour of recordings around 170. Every time I stopped for a drink, the step counter went down again. but there are still many countdown minutes that I know I have been running.
Don’t be discouraged if the number changes from minute to minute; It is normal to adjust your cadence as you change speed and terrain. But scrolling down the list can give you an idea of what rhythm you’re aiming for and how consistent it is.
