How to Use the New IPad IOS 11 Keyboard (and Remove It If You Don’t Like It)
If you’ve installed iOS 11 on your iPad, then you’ve probably come face-to-face with the operating system’s new keyboard feature, keystrokes. Essentially, Apple took a regular keyboard and superimposed numbers and symbols on each letter.
For example, now the D key is also a $, and S is also a #. If you didn’t know this was happening and didn’t see any tutorials on how to use it, your first reaction would probably be: WTF?
Using the new keyboard isn’t intuitive, but it’s certainly easy. To access these symbols, you just need to press a key and swipe down. The button icon will change from stock to new. For example, from D to $. When you release, this $ sign will be printed on the screen.
The idea behind the keyboard is to make it easier to access symbols. There is a good chance that if you use it often, this will happen. However, if you are like me, it makes the iPad keyboard more busy than I would like, and I want it to disappear. Currently.
I would rather go to the symbols menu to find a hashtag or number than do it with keystrokes.
If you don’t like it, you can turn off the keyboard by going to the Settings menu on the iPad, choosing General and then Keyboard. From there, you just need to disable “Enable Keystrokes”. When you do, your keyboard will (thankfully) revert back to the standard iPad keyboard you’re used to without unnecessary clutter.
