How to Get Your Nintendo Switch on Time for the Holidays
Even though the Nintendo Switch went on sale in March, they are still selling like crazy and almost impossible to find. If you’re hoping to score one goal before the holidays, here’s what you need to know.
Nintendo has increased production of the console since March, and Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé told Variety that their main goal is to provide consumers this fall. But it is unknown if Nintendo can actually meet the demand. GameStop shipped nearly 25,000 devices to over 4,400 stores a month ago, all of which sold out in minutes. This means you need to be on top if you want to score one for your family (or yourself) anytime soon. Oh, and you better start looking yesterday.
Check with retailers
Chances are you won’t find a Switch just sitting on the shelf as you stroll through the electronics section, so you’ll need to make an effort to contact stores and ask them for information. Call stores nearby and kindly ask if they have any devices, then ask if they know when they usually get console shipments. I was finally able to get mine by talking to a Toys “R” Us employee and showing up at the store the morning of their regular shipment. Here’s a list of the major box retailers to check with regularly:
- GameStop
- Walmart
- Target
- Best buy
- Our toys
- Kmart
If you’re hoping to find one online, check these websites a couple of times a day and follow their Twitter accounts to see posting announcements:
- Amazon ( @amazondeals )
- GameStop ( @GameStop )
- Best Buy ( @BestBuy )
- Newegg ( @Newegg )
- ThinkGeek ( @thinkgeek )
If you don’t want to check the stock yourself, you can try an inventory tracking site like NowInStock.net or NintendoSwitchFinder.com . You might also find the Nintendo Switch Deals subreddit and the Cheap Ass Gamer Twitter helpful. However, I would not rely too heavily on these tools as in-store trackers are rarely accurate .
Pre-order soon
All in all, you’re probably better off pre-ordering your Nintendo Switch from any store that offers it. GameStop certainly offers pre-orders for the console, but be sure to double check your estimated arrival time. However, pre-ordering ensures that you receive it eventually . So while you may not have a fully packaged console on Christmas morning, at least you can show the recipient (s) that they are definitely on their way. Unfortunately pre-ordering leads to another problem …
Be prepared to pay extra for the kit
The best thing you can do to get your switch before the holidays is to spend some extra money on a system kit. They usually come with the game, some accessories, and sometimes with an additional controller, but they also cost a lot more. The Nintendo Switch console costs $ 299 on its own, but the bundle will set you back $ 400 to $ 550 . And guess what? If you’re looking to pre-order your Nintendo Switch or check out early, it should probably be one of these bundles. Good luck!
