Easy Smartphone Portrait Photos With Big Mac Box
If you’re looking for a cheap and somewhat tasty solution for lighting your selfies or portraits on your smartphone, look no further. Ba-da-ba-ba-bah, I love this Big Mac box lighting trick.
Photographer Philippe Echaroux asked a friend to come up with an ultra-small budget lighting solution, and he came up with a smart reflector made from a box of Bic Mac shells. You can watch how he builds the reflector and how he uses it effectively in the video below:
To make your own, eat Bic Mac first. This is the hardest part. After you empty the salad box (because they are too heavy on these things) and special sauce, tear off a small slot at the bottom so you can put a small flashlight inside. Now use a straw to prop up the box of clam shells so that light can bounce off both the bottom and top of the box. The box-shaped reflector ensures that your subject’s face is well lit without blurring as it softens objects a bit. And it’s all! You are ready to shoot.
