Start a Cooking Club With Other Parents to Share the Work

Packing school lunches every day can be a little tedious, and the results can be a little monotonous. (Sorry, my dear child, who has been eating spaghetti and peas for the past five days.) One way to distribute work and make things more interesting for your child’s taste is to start a lunch packing club with other parents.

Get out those Trapper Keepers and sharpen your # 2 pencils – it’s a week back to school ! Going far beyond the classroom, Lifehacker offers you ingenious tricks and ideas on how to start a routine, brush up on old skills, or learn something new this fall.

Team up with a few other mums and dads from your kid’s class and take turns in charge of school meals throughout the week – for the entire gang. The idea is that if you already have all of the food for one child (bread, deli meats, grapes, etc.), it’s easy enough to prepare multiple meals. Children can be introduced to new foods and snacks, and you can even get creative (tip:ants on a log is a classic lunch hit). After your week is over, you will be done for a while. Come on, sleep eight more minutes.

There are several notes about this plan. This is most likely not going to work for the very picky eaters. Also, if your child has food allergies, you should skip this tip – other parents may not be as careful about reading ingredients as you are. And you probably want to use disposable paper lunch bags like we did in the 80s – no one wants to wash four intricate bento boxes with 13 different compartments every night.

With this in mind, create your own club. Here are some tips on how to put together the best school lunch .
