Three Spatulas Every Kitchen Needs
While I would love to fill my cookware with every Star Wars-themed spatula in existence, I simply don’t have the space – or need – for so many lathes. In fact, the average home cook only needs three scoops:
Fish spatula
As we discussed earlier , the fish spatula can be used for more than just turning the fish. It is long and durable yet very thin, making it ideal for flipping and carrying all kinds of delicate foods. (Honestly, if you can flip a whole fish fillet without fiddling with it, what can’t you flip?) It’s also a wonderful scraper, and its slots make it perfect for catching fried food from oil. (And, if you tend to cook a lot without sticking, OXO makes a silicone-coated kitchen that Epicurious claims can handle temperatures up to 600 ℉.)
Rubber or silicone spatula
Rubber or silicone spatulas are terrible fins, but they do a great job of scrambled eggs and folding fluffy egg whites. They are also ace bowl scrapers, perfect for pouring every bite of brownie dough into the pan. A lot of people prefer spatulas made from a single material – I’m partial to slippery silicone – which means the head won’t come off the body at the wrong time, but I’ve never had a problem with that number with a wooden handle. from Le Cruz. ( Even I like this tiny guy from Tovolo , which on the other end there is a nylon expander.)
Wood turner
You could probably get by with just the above two, but I love having a versatile wooden lathe in case my fish spatula or silicone spatula is predisposed (ahem, dirty). This item can be scratched, wiggled, folded and flipped, and if you take proper care of it, it will never die.
These three will get the job done, leaving room in your crockery for your impressive collection of wooden spoons, or that Death Star spatula if needed.
