What Did You Cook and Eat Over the Long Weekend?
Hello and welcome back toWhat’s Cooking? , an open thread where you can share your brilliant thoughts, tips, recipes and opinions on all food related matters. Today I want to talk about a wonderful 3-day weekend we had, and specifically what you ate during it.
Long weekends are always perfect for starting up exciting new culinary projects or simply chatting and grilling while drinking plenty of beer. Whatever you cook or eat, I want to hear about it. A few questions to help you get started:
- Have you fried something? I have no real access to the grill, so I have to live through you.
- Have you had any new interesting projects? How did they get out? After being paralyzed by too many great recipes, I finally made the brownies from Stella Parks’ amazing new cookbook, BraveTart: Iconic American Desserts . I’ve been a longtime fan of chocolate brownies, but these fictional masterpieces have made me a convert in heart and soul.
- What was the drinks situation this weekend? Have you tried any new cocktails? It’s not entirely new, but I rekindled my love for Cynar and drank this drink all weekend.
- Have you attended any fun picnics or dinners? Who brought the best dish? I was not invited to any such business, but I was at the birthday party. I brought the aforementioned cakes and loved them.
- If you ventured out into nature: what kind of picnic did you put together? I went for a swim in the Washugal River, but could not bring anything but chips and Diet Coke. However, last week I went to the river and brought chicken salad sandwiches and cans of banana pudding , which was great.
Plus, if you just stayed at home, cooled down and ate takeaway, I want to hear about that too. I started the weekend with a giant sausage and mushroom pizza and it was a good choice.
