Happy Hour With 3 Ingredients: a Pleasantly Bitter Cynaric Carbonated Drink
Happy (long) weekend and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring super simple yet delicious libations. This week, as the kids say, I’m firmly back on my fizzy, bitter, Italian-liqueur-infused nonsense: the Cynar Fizz.
If you, like me, are a fan of the iconic Campari brand but want to expand, Cynar is the next bottle you should buy. You may notice an artichoke on the label because this booze bottle is made from artichokes. But instead of giving the liquor the flavor of steamed vegetables, it adds a woody flavor. The result is a slightly bitter but pleasantly herbal liquid that can be used in the same way as Campari.
In my opinion, this is the perfect liqueur with a transition from summer to autumn, since it has all the bitterness of Campari, but it tastes and looks more like an autumn one. I make it very simple, add a little lemon and soda. To prepare this spritz you will need:
- 2 ounces cinar
- 30 g fresh lemon juice
- 2 ounce soda
Take a lowball and throw in a large ice cube. Add the cynar and lemon, stir and top with baking soda. Have a drink and enjoy.
