Personal Interview Added to the Process of Obtaining a Green Card
Obtaining a green card is already a difficult and sometimes confusing process. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) now adds face-to-face interviews for two types of green cards.
This additional face-to-face interview requirement will take effect on October 1, 2017 and, according to USCIS , will apply to the following types of green cards:
• Adjustment of status statements based on employment (Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Change of Status).
• Refugee / Asylum Seeker Applications (Form I-730, Refugee / Asylum Seeker) for beneficiaries based in the United States applying to join the main asylum seeker / refugee.
USCIS also mentioned that they plan to expand interviews to other types in the future. Adding a green card to the process for those looking to come to the US for work or seek refuge can leave some job seekers in a dangerous environment or delay their employment. If you or someone you know is planning to go through the process of obtaining a green card for one of the two types listed above after October 1 of this year, be prepared for a longer process.
