How to Use Your Bath Mat Correctly

Oh great bathroom rug, what’s the proper etiquette when using you? We asked you wonderful people and this is what you told us.

First, they all had some great suggestions as to why we use bathroom rugs at all. Yes, they absorb water, but they also prevent us from slipping and smashing our heads on the toilet , and they also act as a thermal buffer for our toes between the hot shower and the ice floor . Yeah, the bathroom rugs are gorgeous!

When it came to usage, the general consensus was that this is the wrong way:

  • Finish shower
  • Step out on the bath mat
  • Take a towel
  • Then dry

The bath mat stays wet and damp for those who shower after you. It will also feel much colder as it dries. In fact, most of the people who have mentioned this method have complained about it:

However, there are exceptions to this. Sometimes there is simply not enough space to dry before stepping onto the rug:

Some people don’t even use them because of the bathroom environment:

Most people seem to agree that this is the correct way to do it:

  • Finish shower
  • Take a towel from the shower
  • Dry yourself in the shower
  • Then step out onto the rug

But you all suggested a few great additions, like keeping the towel within arm’s reach of the shower so you don’t have to freeze to grab it , squeezing your hair and body to remove excess water before towel drying while keeping the towel in place. the shower curtain or door is closed while you dry to keep warm , dry from top to bottom (hair first), and hang the rug over the edge of the tub or shower when you’re done so it can dry out without looking like an accidental wet towel on the floor.

Other lessons include using towel type rugs instead of a rug. They don’t look so pretty, but they are easier to dry and they don’t turn into wet dolls:

And if wet rugs become a problem in your home, you can use two rugs. They’re not that expensive anyway:

And if you’re really worried about a wet bath mat, you can always cover it with a regular towel. But maybe that makes the bathroom rug meaningless …

It is also optional to dry your feet:

So, here is the ultimate way to use a bath mat according to you fantastic shower people:

  • Place a towel next to the shower before you start.
  • We begin to finish the shower, then we turn off the water.
  • Squeeze hair with a scraper to remove excess water.
  • Squeeze your body.
  • Get out of the shower quickly and grab a towel.
  • In the shower, dry your hair, starting with the hair and then gradually working it down.
  • Dry your feet if you like.
  • Open your shower curtain or door and step on the bath mat to dry your feet if you haven’t already.

Now, if you have a towel-type bath mat, hang it over the edge of the tub or shower to dry, then put a second dry bath mat if someone is walking right behind you. If you have a shaggy rug, leave it alone and hope you did it right so it doesn’t get wet through. That’s all! You are now ready to take a shower.
