You Can Now Watch Live Streaming Through Hulu on Your Computer
I ditched cable TV about a decade ago and am currently using Hulu (as well as Netflix and HBO Now) as my primary way of staying on top of everything that happens on TV (which I may still not like). Hulu’s new live streaming option seemed enticing to me, and is now made even more appealing by the news that the company is offering a live streaming option on Mac and PC.
Previously, if you wanted to watch live streaming through Hulu, you had to use a mobile device or set-top box like Apple TV. It’s great when you’re at home. When you travel a lot, like me, and want to watch a show while sitting at the airport or on Airbnb, you’ll either have to stare at the tiny phone screen or skip.
The ability to watch TV in your browser is great news for people looking to follow their favorite soccer team this season or watch the live premiere of fall TV shows (Scandal, I’m Watching You) next month. Or even for people who don’t have a TV but still want to watch sports or other live streams through Hulu on a device other than their phone.
In a blog post announcing the update, Hulu chief executive Ben Smith warns that the internet will not be perfect just yet. The version currently available is a “very early release” that is expected to evolve over the next few months with additional features and browser-specific tweaks to improve performance.

It’s worth noting that most of Hulu’s competitors, including DirecTV Now, Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, and YouTube TV, already offer in-browser TV viewing.
