How Will You Enjoy the Last Straw of Summer?

Hello and welcome back toWhat’s Cooking? , an open thread where you can share your brilliant thoughts, tips, recipes and opinions on all food related matters. Summer is (unfortunately) drawing to a close, so I would like to take this opportunity to talk about your favorite summer food moments and how you plan to enjoy the last bites of the season.

I, for one, will eat all the peaches I can get my hands on, but there is still time for more. As always, I want to know about your meal plans and I want to ask you a few questions:

  • What is the most grilled dish you have eaten this summer? Although I am a lover of grilled meats, my favorite grilling experience this summer was a grilled pizza party that had a pie with fresh goat cheese, cherry and prosciutto ham.
  • Did you manage to collect seasonal fruits? What was it? How did you eat it? I never went outdoors to pick berries, but I took handfuls of blackberries from a bush in my area and ate them on the way home. It was good.
  • Have you found a new, summer recipe this year? It’s not really a recipe, but I figured out how to make ice cream and it’s pretty cool.
  • How many tomato sandwiches have you eaten? I lost count.
  • What fruit turned into pies and which cake recipe did you use? I still have big plans to make peach pie and taste the old Stella Parks crust recipe .
  • How much corn did you eat? I ate a lot of bread, mostly in the form of an elote , but I also consumed a whole batch of my sous vide whipped corn without any help.
  • What are some last minute summer meal plans you still need to fulfill? Besides the peach pie, I really want to eat more seafood while it’s still hot. A few weeks ago I had crabs and shrimps on the beach and it was almost the perfect experience.
  • What was your “summer drink”? I ended up drinking a lot more shitty beer than usual, mostly Rainier. I also drank a bunch of campari and soda, but I drink any time of the year.

Obviously feel free to deviate from my profile and tell me about all the summer food adventures you’ve had or are still planning. There is still time, my friends. There is still time.
