3 Ingredient Happy Hour: Rob Roy Scotch Tape
Happy weekend and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. Today we make a gourmet drink with Rob Roy whiskey.
I was on the phone with my dad yesterday when he mentioned reading this column and found a gap in the coverage. “You haven’t tasted Scottish cocktails,” he said, only slightly disappointed in me.
This man is right. I have not suggested a 3-way scotch cocktail here yet and it seems to be wrong. So, to fix that grudge – and make my dad proud – we’re going to make Rob Roy, which is basically just Manhattan, but made from a smoky blended whiskey. To make this classic dad-approved drink, you’ll need:
- 2 ounces blended whiskey like Bank Note or Famous Grouse
- 30 g sweet vermouth
- 2-3 drops of Angostura bitterness
Add everything to a stirring glass filled with ice (half a liter will work) and stir until cool. Sip on a glass of the compartment and sip while wearing tweed or reading a leather-bound book. If you need to decorate the drink, ditch the cherries and grab a strip of orange peel, be sure to pour the oil over the drink before tossing it.
