Spending Money on Things That Save You Time Makes You Happier.

Cooking for yourself after a long day at work can be annoying, but it saves a lot of money. On the other hand, going to a restaurant or taking out food relieves the stress of figuring out what to do (and then doing it). So what will it be? Well, think about this: as reported by the New York Times, a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found that spending money on services, allowing to save time, makes you happier. Takeout food!

This rule applies to people from all socioeconomic backgrounds, with the exception of the “poorest of the poor,” because it increases well-being and reduces the stress of time pressure. Buying tangible items didn’t have the same effect. Despite the increase in happiness, people are less likely to spend money on time-saving services, even if they can afford it. Of the 818 Dutch millionaires surveyed, just under half said they spent money outsourcing their jobs.

So the next time you feel like ordering a delivery, don’t feel guilty – and maybe consider looking for a housekeeper.
