Manage and Unsubscribe All Your Online Accounts With This App
Registering an online account is something we do so often that we lose sight of all the websites we subscribe to. You will only remember when they send you a promotion email. I know I always do.
But there are many online tools that can help you clear your web footprint. I recently came across a new tool – Deseat.Me , a web application that scans your email accounts for services you subscribed to and then puts them on a list that you can delete or keep.
Now I know that many of us are concerned about privacy, especially after it became known that Unroll.me collects personal data from users. Butaccording to the developers, Deseat.me does not collect your personal data and send it to the cloud.
So if you’re looking to clean up the internet by closing multiple online accounts, this seems like a pretty safe option.
Sign in with Google or Outlook
Deseat.me is easy to use. All you have to do is head over to Deseat.Me and log into your Google or Outlook account. If you are already signed in to your browser, you do not need to enter your username or password. You will simply be redirected to another page to provide access to the web application. (If you’re even a little nervous, I recommend that you read the site’s Privacy Policy .)
Choose which accounts to “keep” and “delete”
After logging in, you will see a list of websites that are “pending resolution”. You have to go one by one, choosing which files you want to keep and which ones to put in the “delete queue”. Links that you queue for deletion will be placed on a different list with a link to the unsubscribe page on the website. If you click the link, you will be redirected to that website where you can delete your account.
If you are not sure if you want to delete a website because you don’t remember what it is, you also have the option to ignore the link by clicking on the yellow warning icon next to it, which means “I am not a user here. “
The downside of the delete queue is that it does not provide links to unsubscribe pages for all of the websites you subscribe to. Only major well-known websites have deletion links (e.g. Yelp, Apple, Digg).
Whether the uninstall links are provided or not, it is still good to see which accounts you have opened online. If there is no link that redirects you to the unsubscribe page, you can find it yourself.
Deleting your Deseat.me account
If you want to delete your deseat.me account because either you’ve finished deleting your accounts, or you don’t like the idea of it having access to your email and scanning through them, you can do so by clicking “ delete your account ”at the bottom of the page.
