Google Backup & Sync Is Here to Protect the Rest of Your Data
If you are not prepared for unexpected loss of personal data, Google will take care of you. Finally, it released a backup and sync service that lets you download and sync files from any folder on your computer or from connected drives with Google Drive without moving them. It won’t replace a comprehensive backup service like Crashplan, but it’s definitely worth looking into if you don’t have a real backup plan.
Google Backup & Sync is essentially an updated version of Google Drive. In addition to handling files in Google Drive and the ability to sync them to your local device, you can now select folders elsewhere on your Mac or PC, whether it’s on your primary hard drive or an external one.
In addition to My Drive, you will see the Computers option with the computers you have selected to back up and sync to. In it, you will see the folders that you have chosen to sync and access the files as they are stored in your Google Drive account.
This is a godsend. My backup plan doesn’t exactly exist outside of Google. I pay for a terabyte of storage and store my photos and documents there with copies on an additional drive on my PC.
Unfortunately, putting my photos in Google Drive before it kept folders on my device meant I had to copy for days as I watched them move from one folder to another. I have tons of other files that I would like to back up, and with backup and sync I can check the folders I would like to back up on my PC instead of manually copying and pasting files and folders on google. Drive folder.
