Twitter Adds More Mute Options to Prevent Account Abuse
Twitter added several new mute filters this week in hopes of making the platform safer and more enjoyable for users.
Back in March of this year, Twitter added new features to the mute feature , allowing you to mute accounts for specific reasons, including accounts with a default egg profile picture, accounts without a verified email address, and accounts without a verified phone number. … as allowing certain words to be muted. They ‘ve now expanded filters to make it easier to hide notifications from:
- New accounts (to which you are not subscribed).
- Accounts that are not subscribed to you (to which you are not subscribed).
- Accounts you are not subscribed to.
Disabling new accounts, in addition to disabling eggs and unverified accounts, should help significantly reduce the visibility of trolls, spammers, bots, and other troublemakers.
If you’re in a browser, you can enable these mute filters by going to the notification timeline, clicking Settings, and then checking the boxes you see in the screenshot above. If you’re using iOS or Android, go to the notification bar, tap the gear icon, tap Advanced Filters, then choose your preferred mute filters.
