How to Post Photos to Instagram From Mac
Mac: Some of the most popular apps on your phone most likely have a web version. Eventually, both Facebook and Twitter appeared on the web. But Instagram is a different matter and isn’t exactly web-friendly, making it difficult to edit photos on your desktop ( big screens are still cool! ) Rather than on your phone. There is an Instagram app for Windows 10 users, but Mac owners are out of luck.
Cision has found that while not perfect, a little technical know-how can unlock desktop publishing , a long-awaited feature that, well, actually still doesn’t exist.
To post messages from your desktop, you need to open Google Chrome and work with some developer tools. Go to the options menu (three dots to the right of the URL bar), then select Developer Tools under More Tools.
The developer tools will provide a wealth of information about the web page you are on, including its source code. In the upper left corner of the Developer Tools window, select the Toggle Device Toolbar icon, which looks like a smartphone in front of a tablet. Using this, you can change the user agent of your browser.
In the case of Instagram, changing your user agent will allow you to post photos, but that’s about it. You won’t have access to any filters or editing tools, and while you can move and rotate the image to crop it, you can only use the original image size or Instagram square size (no scaling). You can write a signature, but you won’t be able to share it with other social networks from your browser, just place it on your page.
However, this is a cool trick that takes advantage of Chrome’s ability to easily switch user agents, allowing your browser to simulate browsers from different devices. You can, for example, change your user agent and tell sites that you are using a Samsung Galaxy S8 or iPad and receive a corresponding web page that may have more (or less) functionality.
It’s not a perfect implementation of the Instagram service, but if you’re on your PC and just want to share your latest snapshot or professional editing, a few clicks will get you there and let you leave your phone alone.
