Uber Drivers Coming Soon to Get Tips

It may be too late , but amid all the controversy with Uber that has recently culminated in the resignation of its CEO, Uber has decided to allow all drivers in the United States to accept tips . Here’s what it means for drivers and passengers.

In a recent update to their policy explain page, Uber reported:

Tipping is now available in Seattle, Minneapolis and Houston starting June 20, 2017. We only start with 3 cities, so we can create the best tip experience for you and your riders. We will add more cities over the next few weeks and provide advice to all US drivers and shipping partners by the end of July 2017.

Without the new policy, drivers were allowed to accept tips in cash, but unlike Lyft, there is no way to tip your driver in the app. With this update, drivers can decide if they really want to offer tips as an option. If they do so, their passengers will be prompted to rate and enter a tip after the trip ends.

And yes, drivers will receive a tip in full. However, you need to update your application for this change to take effect.

Consumerist has announced some other changes as well. Uber has experimented with a pay-to-wait feature and is now rolling out it indefinitely in August. If drivers have to wait more than two minutes, they will receive a per-minute wait fee .

Drivers will also receive flight cancellation compensation. If the passenger abandons the vehicle more than two minutes after the driver has agreed to travel, they will pay a cancellation fee. This feature will also be launched by the end of August.
