New Lyft Shuttle Bus Is More Convenient Than Lyft Line
Lyft recently rolled out a shuttle service that is in beta testing in San Francisco and Chicago. Since I live in San Francisco, I was able to try this service so you know what to expect if it hits your city. The ride was much more comfortable than the Lyft Line (shared ride), and the one I chose was 2-3 times cheaper than Lyft, by the way.
I use Lyft or Lyft Line a couple of times a week, usually because I travel with other people, and it’s just as or cheaper (and much, much cleaner, faster, and more enjoyable) than using public transit. But Lyfts can add up quickly, and Lyft Line, while cheaper, can get you out of the way and significantly extend travel times.
The Lyft Shuttle solves both of these problems by asking you to walk to the nearest pick-up location, hop into a shared car that follows a pre-designated route, and drop you (and everyone else) at the same stop. So basically you are sharing a trip with other people (most of the time), so your trip price is lower, but you know exactly how long the trip will take because you are on a predetermined route.
Disadvantages: The shuttle is only available during opening hours and you will only be picked up and dropped off at certain locations. However, the currently suggested routes (shown in the map below) go to most of the areas I visit and I live in downtown San Francisco, so there are many stops near me. If you have a similar situation, if and when the Lyft Shuttle arrives in your city, this is a convenient and more affordable alternative.
