How to Microwave Homemade Potato Chips
Do you really want potato chips, but all you have is potatoes? I totally feel you. Sure, you could preheat the oven and start baking (or put on your pants, go to the store and buy a bag), but what if I told you that you can make delicious homemade potato chips in just a few minutes using the microwave? Dreams Come True.
What do you need
- Potato
- Cutting tool
- Parchment
- Olive or vegetable oil
- Microwave
Start by slicing the potatoes as thin as possible. I usually use the edge of a cheese grater for this, but if you really know how to hand cut thin slices, give it a try.
Place the potatoes on a piece of parchment paper, then lightly brush each potato with some oil. To do this, you can use cooking spray, olive oil, or my own favorite product: truffle oil (because I am obviously very much on my way). You can also add salt and pepper or any other condiment you usually like to your chips. If you ask me, the cajun seasoning and garlic salt are killer.
After you finish seasoning (you really want to do this pre-cook, not fast), microwave the paper for five minutes. You want the edges of the potatoes to start browning. Depending on the thickness of the chips, you may need to add or subtract a minute or two to the cooking time. Keep an eye on them, especially around the 4-minute mark, and pull them out whenever they start to take on their characteristic “chip” look. Super-thin chips are very easy to get too crunchy, so be careful.
Once they’re ready, let them sit for a minute to cool, then sit back and enjoy your irresistible kitchen skills.
