Which Frozen Treat Drives Your Summer?

Hello, and welcome back toWhat’s Cooking? , a weekly open thread where you can share all your brilliant thoughts, tips, recipes and opinions on anything edible. This week, I want to talk about your favorite frozen treats, from ice cream truck classics to adult granite.

Friends, I have a confession: while I would like to tell you that I spend my summer scooping homemade vanilla ice cream on top of pies and shoemakers made from berries that I have picked myself, it is actually a much more childish and pedestrian activity. My summer is ruled by Choco Taco and I aim to eat as much as possible during these hot summer months. While not quite made with the finest ingredients, there is something compelling about the combination of the crunchy sugar cone shell, sugary synthetic vanilla ice cream, chocolate frosting, and small peanut chunks. I’m sure nostalgia plays a big role here, but the fact that it’s shaped like a taco doesn’t hurt either.

Anyway. I certainly want to hear about your favorite frozen confections, whether mass-produced or home-made. As usual, I have questions:

  • What’s your favorite food on the ice cream truck? You know mine. I’m also a big fan of Snickers ice cream and this hot pink strawberry shortcrust cake.
  • How do you feel about DIY versions of the classic classic ice cream trucks? I know I can make my own chocolate tacos , but it’s a little less magical. The heat also makes me very lazy.
  • Could you share your favorite ice cream recipe? I am still very much in love with sous-vide ice cream , mainly because it is so simple.
  • Are you an ice cream lover or an ice cream lover? I very rarely do popsicle over ice cream, but there are days when even the coldest milk dessert turns out to be too thick.
  • Are crazy ice cream flavors getting too crazy? I live in a country of fancy frozen dairy – one place served blood pudding ice cream last October – but I have to say that the best ice cream in Portland is not ice cream at all, but ice cream . A beautifully crafted stractella is better than any stunt taste on any day.
  • Have you hugged alcoholic granite ? I once made one of Prosecco. It was good.
  • What about froze ? I haven’t tried this yet, but freeze dispensers are popping up all over my city and I’m looking forward to exploring. I’ve also heard stories about the frozen Negroni.
  • What do you think of this trend of tossing popsicles in wine glasses ? In all fairness, they seem to be best consumed on their own in most cases. Why would you melt a popsicle and dilute the wine?
  • All Blues jokes aside, what do you think of frozen bananas? I like them very much, although they are not considered a dessert. I like to cover them with colored crumbs.
